STRICTLY Come Dancing has officially confirmed this year’s first star.
Speaking today, Lacey said: “I am so excited to being making my way to the dance floor this year to be a part of Strictly Come Dancing! I am a huge fan and can’t quite believe I will be taking part and not watching at home this year!
“I look forward to meeting everyone and learning a new skill!”
In a video shared to Instagram, Lacey further added: “I can’t quite believe that I’m actually saying this, but I want to let you in on a little secret.
“This September, I will be taking my little toes onto the dancefloor to do Strictly Come Dancing.
“I’m so excited and so terrified at the same time but I’ve had so many friends do Strictly and I thought it was about time that I plucked up the courage and made my way onto that dance floor so there you go.
“Secret’s out!”
Lacey is best known for playing Stacey Slater on the BBC soap opera.
The mum-of-two is currently on a break from the soap and has signed up to the dancing contest during her hiatus.
The Sun first revealed that she had signed for the programme last month.
A TV source said: “Strictly bosses are delighted to snap Lacey up for the series, especially as she has such a huge fan base from her time on the soap.
“She’s down to earth and viewers will be excited to get to know her personality away from Albert Square.
“She has loved having some quality time off screen to focus on parenting, but feels like now is the perfect time to learn to dance and try something different before she reprises her role in EastEnders.”
Lacey, who also starred in BBC drama Our Girl, previously turned down the ballroom series.
She said in 2017: “I have been asked to go on Strictly but I’m rubbish at dancing and I don’t really have the guts.
“I think it’s a great show to do, though, as you learn a new skill.”
Lacey, who shares two daughters with husband Matt Kay, will join a growing number of EastEnders stars who have taken part in the dance competition, including previous winners Jill Halfpenny, Kara Tointon and Rose Ayling-Ellis.
