Meghan Markle’s MasterChef body language has been examined by an expert, who suggested that she appeared to be “cosplaying” as a chef on the programme.
The Duchess of Sussex featured on MasterChef Australia on July 22, where participants were challenged to prepare a dish “fit for a duchess.”

The meal was required to showcase a seasonal ingredient while weaving in a personal, nostalgic narrative.
Meghan was invited to select these ingredients, with the mother of two choosing Australian honey, macadamia nuts, celeriac, citrus fruits, and edible flowers — a distinctive flourish she regularly incorporates into her own cookery programmes.
Throughout Meghan’s appearance on MasterChef, which was recorded during her Australian visit in April, she attempted to inject personal elements into her exchanges with participants, sharing snippets about her husband, Prince Harry, and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
While presenting the ingredients, Meghan disclosed that her children happily consume Brussels sprouts at home — a revelation that prompted a surprised “that’s impressive” from judge Poh Ling Yeow.
Furthermore, Meghan explored her own approach to cooking, revealing that she typically favours grilled meats, fish, citrus, and casual preparation methods, encouraging the contestants to “remember to have fun, to keep a sense of humor about it and to cook from the heart.”
Following her appearance, renowned body language expert Judi James spoke to the Daily Express US about Meghan’s body language throughout the episode.

Judi elaborated on how the Duchess displayed “authoritarian-style” mannerisms, telling us, “As she struts in through the studio, her brows are raised, and her eye expression registers excitement. Her poise, though, is pure ‘Duchess’ to remind everyone of her status.
“Her plain black shirt and skirt are one apron away from looking like the full chef’s get-up, and there are some rather authoritarian-style gestures to give the look of someone used to being in charge in a kitchen.”
Exploring her culinary attire further, Judi suggested Meghan was “cosplaying” as a member of the culinary world.
“There’s the chef cosplay look because she apparently has to line up with the other judges, projecting a level of expertise as she puts the competitors through their paces,” the expert remarked.
Furthermore, Judi observed that appearing on MasterChef may have been a “tough call” for the mother of two, as she seemingly presented two distinct personas.
“There’s her duchess image with the air of elegance and specialness, but there’s also apparently a ‘not a royal’ request that means she needs to veer onto the side of ‘being herself’ rather than making the slot look too much like a royal visit,” Judi concluded.
