Royal watchers did not miss the timing.
Just as King Charles and the Royal Family were taking part in one of the monarchy’s most public set pieces, Prince Harry’s face was appearing on a giant screen in Germany, and clips of the moment were already making their way across social media.
The King had left Buckingham Palace at around 10.45am on Saturday morning, travelling down The Mall for Trooping The Colour, the annual military parade marking the sovereign’s official birthday.
He was joined by Queen Camilla, the Prince and Princess of Wales and their children, along with the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, and Princess Anne with Sir Timothy Laurence.
But while the attention in London was firmly on Horse Guards Parade, another royal moment was unfolding abroad.
At 11.11am, a pre-recorded message from Prince Harry, 41, was shown to crowds at the Invictus Germany Sports Festival 2026 in Düsseldorf. The video quickly began circulating online, prompting questions over whether the timing was simply unfortunate, or something more awkward.
Harry may not have known the exact moment his message would be played. The video had been recorded in advance, and the festival’s opening ceremony reportedly wrapped up at around 11am in Germany, which is 10am in the UK.
Still, once the crowd was gathered and the message appeared on the big screen, it was only a matter of time before the footage spread.
In the clip, Harry thanked those attending for their service and encouraged them to enjoy the festival, celebrate what they had achieved, and lean on one another when needed.
The Duke of Sussex founded the Invictus Games in 2014, with the first event held in London. The next Games in Birmingham are scheduled to take place from July 10 to July 17, 2027.
For now, it is still unclear whether Meghan Markle and the couple’s children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, will join Harry if he returns to the UK for the event.
But one thing is clear: even from Germany, Harry still managed to become part of the conversation on a day meant to belong to the King.

Harry, who stepped down as a senior working royal in 2020 during what became known as Megxit, has not appeared himself at Trooping the Colour since 2019.
But while millions were watching the event around the world on TV, at the same time Harry’s video was also winging around YouTube and social media channels.
The timing is suspect and you feel there must have been a part of him thinking ‘If I can’t be at Trooping the Colour then I will share the moment of Trooping the Colour’.
It is a shame if that’s the case, and a disappointment that Harry felt the need to overshadow the rest of his family back in the UK.
He was not frozen out; he was not kicked out, nor was he marched out the UK and the Royal Family.
He quit. He walked out and slammed the door.
But Harry would have loved to have been at Trooping the Colour. He relished the event and the camaraderie of his fellow Armed Forces heroes.
That is why he launched the Invictus Games – to share, support and give back to those with whom he feels a brotherhood – and he is to be commended for that.
It is the greatest thing he has done, or probably will ever do. In contrast, this wasn’t.
