During season six, the teams travelled over the course of 51 days, using only their combined wits to struggle through language barriers, complicated public transport and emotional barriers to reach their destination.

After kicking off the adventure in Italy, they reached the second leg of their journey in Kefalonia, Greece, and then to Istanbul, Turkey. From the country’s largest city to Halfeti, the group went to Georgia, Tbilisi, before reaching Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan.

With the prize pot and the finish line in sight, the pairs endured a gruelling 12,000km trek in Hatgal by Lake Khövsgöl in northern Mongolia.

Race Against the World is a show about the true test of endurance, with many of its pairs being relatives, couples and friends, you get to know each contestant, what they’ve fought to reach this far and what they’re fighting for.

Race Across the World was such a hit that the BBC commissioned a star-studded spin-off, Celebrity Race Across the World, where the famous faces also ditch the VIP treatment for the same arduous journey.

Throughout the six instalments, the show has seen the likes of presenters Roman Kemp, Jeff Brazier, Alex Beresford, singer Melanie Blatt and radio host Scott Mills take part.

The regular show saw childhood best friends, Jo Diop and Kush Burman, take home the whopping £20,000 prize after reaching the finish line three hours ahead of the other pairs.

In the touching moment, they realised their victory, Kush declared: “I hope we did Liverpool proud, big up Scousers!” Then they celebrated their win by piling on top of one another in the snow.
