Michael Buble kicked off the World Cup in Toronto for Canada’s Opening Ceremony but viewers complained just minutes into the live coverage. Gabby Logan was joined in the studio by Micah Richards, Wayne Rooney, and Olivier Giroud.

The Canadian-born crooner, 50, began to belt out his opening song, but while he was singing BBC host Gabby could be heard in the background speaking over the performer much to the annoyance to viewers. Her fellow colleagues could also be heard chuckling as Michael entertained the crowd.

The Just Haven’t Met You Yet hitmaker finally appeared moments before the game against Bosnia and Herzegovina started. Flags for every team in the competition were brought onto the field, while Michael, who stood in the centre, performed his 2022 hit Bring It On Home To Me.

But BBC viewers slammed the coverage as they were unable to hear him sing as the commentators spoke during his performance.

One viewer fumed: “I would have quite liked to watch Michael Bublé at the Canada World Cup Opening Ceremony, BBC… And instead they’ve cut back to the studio after talking over his performance?”

A second echoed: “I agree. I was only watching to see his performance and they just talked over it! Outrageous. I was fuming.”

A third argued: “I guess we’ll have to settle for watching Michael on Youtube when it appears Amy, the BBC really are insulting for doing that, at least ITV showed the opening ceremony last night.”

“How rude were @BBCSport talking over @MichaelBuble singing and being very cheeky about him when he was on the TV singing live. Didn’t do that last night when it was Shakira miming did they,” a fourth added.

A fifth moaned: “@BBC could we not see the Canadian opening ceremony? Talking over Michael Buble in a patronising way. Really bad.”

“Why do I have to watch these chat away, I wanna watch Michael Buble,” another tweeted.

A seventh social media user added: “Ruined it!” Another mused: “If you want to watch Buble head over to YouTube.”

Michael headlined the show before Canada’s first game of the tournament against Bosnia and Herzegovina. Millions of fans had tuned in to watch the historic moment in Canada’s football history.

Alanis Morissette delivered a moving rendition of the Canadian national anthem in front of thousands of fans.
