Queen Mary of Denmark has given an emotional statement after Queen Margrethe is rushed to hospital for the second time. The Danish Queen gave an update on her mother-in-law’s condition after she was hospitalised for a second time following the discovery of a blood clot.

Speaking to Danish TV channel TV2, the 54-year-old said: “I heard she had a surgery for a procedure after a previous fall. Everything went well and as planned. She is in the best hands.” She added: “Of course it puts a damper on the day, but she won’t like me saying this.”

King Frederik also spoke of his mother, adding that he is planning to visit her in the hospital.

Margrethe was admitted to Rigshospitalet on May 14 after suffering from angina and underwent an angioplasty in a coronary artery – she was discharged just six days later.

Less than a week after that discharge, she was later readmitted following the discovery of a large blood clot in her hip, which was the result of a fall she suffered in September 2024.

Following her readmission this week, a statement released by the Danish Royal Family read that Queen Margrethe “has been admitted to Rigshospitalet and is receiving treatment after a CT scan revealed a large blood clot in her hip area as a result of a previous fall.”

However, despite the seriousness of the medical report, they emphasised that Margrethe “is doing well under the circumstances,” although “she is expected to remain hospitalised for several days”.

Earlier this week, Queen Mary was pictured on a fun run with her husband and their four children, Crown Prince Christian, 20, Princess Isabella, 19, and twins Princess Josephine and Prince Vincent, 15.

Whilst she only completed the one run, the King completed all three that were planned for the day.

The Queen told Danish TV channel, TV2: “I have to admit I have become a slow runner, but I ran the whole way. This year my husband wins because he is the only one who ran all the distances.”
