Prince William says Kate is hoping to do more trips following her visit to Italy
Prince William has made an emotional statement about his wife, Kate Middleton, following her recent trip to Italy. The Princess of Wales visited the northern Italian city of Reggio Emilia to study the internationally renowned ‘Reggio Emilia Approach’ to early childhood education, which emphasises creativity, play and child-led learning.
The trip was connected to the work of The Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood, which Kate founded in 2021. During the visit, she met educators, families, children and local leaders as part of what Kensington Palace described as a “fact-finding mission”.
Kate’s visit marked her first major overseas trip since her cancer treatment and recovery – something that has made William incredibly proud.
Speaking as a special guest on the Heart Radio Breakfast Show live from Cornwall on Friday (May 22), the Prince of Wales was asked about the trip by hosts Jamie Theakston and Amanda Holden.

“[I’m] so proud. I’m very, very, proud, she has been amazing, she’s been through so much in the last couple of years, particularly. She has been looking forward to the Italian trip a lot so I’m really glad it went really well,” William gushed.

Addressing the significance of Kate’s first overseas engagement since her health ordeal, Jamie said: “It must’ve been a difficult time back then with the kids and seeing her fulfil those duties must’ve made you very happy.”
“Yep, very much so,” William replied. “She’s an amazing mum and an amazing wife and literally our family couldn’t cope without her. She’s been absolutely stunning, she really has.”
Asked whether more trips could be on the horizon, William added: “She’s sort of edging herself back into doing more of those trips,” though stressed that with such visits requiring a great deal of work, they can “take it out of you”.
“We have to balance that and make sure she’s okay and rested but she’s in good form,” he added.
Kate publicly announced in January 2025 that she was in remission from cancer after completing chemotherapy treatment. She said at the time: “It is a relief to now be in remission and I remain focused on recovery.”

While in Italy, the Princess reportedly expressed enthusiasm about taking on more international engagements before leaving the country.
According to The Times, she asked her team: “Where next?”. The publication reported that her eagerness to explore future destinations is centred on “protecting human connection” in a world increasingly dominated by digital distractions – something she believes “has become one of the defining challenges of our time”.
A spokesperson for Kensington Palace suggested the trip could signal the beginning of a new chapter for the mother-of-three.
They said: “She was extremely inspired by what she saw this week and will be really pushing the team to quickly find out where’s next on the map. This is the first chapter in a much broader global effort led by the princess.”
