A beloved Strictly Come Dancing star is set to make a major comeback to the BBC show after being brutally axed. BBC bosses axed five professional dancers earlier this year in a huge show shakeup ahead of the new series, which is set to return this autumn. Nadiya Bychkonva was one of the five dancers let go from the show after nearly a decade of performing on it.

At the time, the mum-of-one admitted she was “distraught” by the sudden news and was left utterly “heartbroken” when she wasn’t invited back as a full-time professional dancer. But now, the 36-year-old star is set to return to the studio later this year.

In a new interview with Hello! magazine, talking about a possible return in the future, she teased: “Absolutely. It is absolutely [on the cards]. We are talking about, hopefully, in the future, me coming in and choreographing some of the pro numbers.”

It appears there is no bad blood between Nadiya and the show producers as she plots her next career move. Although Nadiya won’t be taking to the dancefloor with a new celebrity this year, she appeared over the moon with putting her years of ballroom knowledge to good use.

She continued: “The team have known for years how passionate I am about creating things and choreographing. Lots of producers came to watch shows that I did myself. This is the natural thing to do, because of what I love and want to do.

“It would be beautiful to see some of my creations and stories [that] I want to tell through dance on Strictly one day,” she gushed. The Ukrainian ballroom dancer met with Strictly bosses back in March and was told it would be the end of the road.

She was purged from the cast alongside long-running cast members Gorka Marquez, 35, Luba Mushtuck, 36, relative newcomer Michelle Tsiakkas, 30, and show veteran Karen Hauer. A source previously said: “Nadiya is distraught. The news came as such a huge shock, as Nadiya’s life was on Strictly, and to find out she’s not been invited back as a full-time pro has really broken her heart.

“No one was expecting producers to chop so many professionals. Especially someone like Nadiya, who’s shown so much dedication to the show over the years. There’s a super weird feeling among the rest of the pros now, they’re all wondering if they’re safe, and everyone’s nervous.”
